FSU basketball bounced back from a mini slump to win their last two games and now might have given their chances of a double bye some new life.

It wasn’t all that long ago that plenty of people – including yours truly, I will admit – were ready to say that the sky was falling on the FSU basketball program after a three game losing skid that included two losses to teams (Pittsburgh and Boston College) that the Seminoles had no business losing to.

Fast forward one week and the Noles are all of a sudden feeling a lot better about themselves after two straight wins. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s time to book tickets to the Final Four after beating Clemson and Miami, but all of a sudden there is more breathing room about what the postseason could look like.

There also is still a chance that the Seminoles could end up with one of the top four seeds in this March’s ACC Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina – meaning FSU basketball wouldn’t have to play until Thursday and would play just a possible maximum of three games in the Queen City – getting plenty of much needed rest.

Now, I know there is still as many as 11 games left for some ACC teams including the Seminoles so any talk of this might sound premature, but the schedule plays out in the favor of Leonard Hamilton’s team to make this happen.

Right now, the Seminoles are eighth in the standings. Of the seven teams ahead of them, the Noles have already played two – Virginia and Duke, who hold the top spots – and won’t face them again. Of the remaining five teams, the Noles will face them all just once this season with three at home – Louisville, Virginia Tech and N.C. State – and two on the road – Syracuse and UNC.

This season, FSU basketball won the jackpot as the four teams that they will face twice this season are below them in the standings – including a Georgia Tech team right below the Noles in the standings (who they will place both times in the next two weeks) along with a Clemson team they have beaten once, a Miami team they swept and 15th place Wake Forest.

With a schedule that is set up for them to do well, FSU basketball has just one thing that can stand in their way: themselves. If the Seminoles can avoid the traditional hiccups and play up to the level they are capable of (and get a little help), the Noles might get a few extra days at home before making that trip to Charlotte.
