FSU Basketball Weekly Preview: January 7th-13th
By Jason Parker
Here’s a preview of FSU basketball and their upcoming games scheduled for play during the 2018-19 season.
As the calendar turned to the year 2019, the FSU basketball team was in sheer joy after yet another non-conference win that helped them tie a record to start a season that had only happened less than a handful of times before in the history of the program.
Just four days later, the Seminoles were brought back down to earth in the first ACC game of the season for the team – and all of a sudden, some of the hope and optimism that came during the first two months of the season went bye bye rather quickly.
Now, the Noles head back into action this week against two more conference foes – one being a hated in state rival for FSU basketball – that were in the conversation for being in the NCAA Tournament field when the season started and one of them will be the top ranked team in the country when they come to Tallahassee.

Here’s our recap of last week’s game action and a preview of what’s ahead for the Seminoles.
Last Week Recap
The Seminoles rang in 2019 inside the Tucker Center against Winthrop last Tuesday, taking a big lead in the first half before essentially mailing it in during the final 20 minutes – including missing all six of their three point attempts in the second half – to get the 87-76 victory. Terance Mann led the Noles with 22 points as the 12-1 record ties for the best in program history with two other years.
On Saturday, FSU basketball found out about how the other half lives when they faced off with Virginia in a top 10 battle between ACC programs. The Seminoles were in it for about the first five minutes of the game before the Cavaliers took over, leading by 19 at the half and as many as 27 points in the second to get the 65-52 win in a game that wasn’t nearly that close.
Opponent Preview
On Wednesday night, FSU basketball will welcome the rival Miami Hurricanes to the Tucker Center. The Canes come in with an 8-6 record after dropping their first two conference games to NC State and Louisville – as Miami went from a tournament favorite to a team that lost four straight games in the middle of the season, with three of them being by four points or less.
Saturday, the Seminoles will host the top ranked Duke Blue Devils – who have been riding high ever since they suffered their only loss of the season by two points to Gonzaga. Since then, Duke has won their last seven games by over 32 points a contest and will face Wake Forest on Tuesday.
Interesting Fact
FSU basketball will continue their success at home against the Hurricanes as they have won three of their last four games inside the Tucker Center against the orange and green that included an overtime victory last January.
For the Seminoles, the first three games of the ACC slate are beyond important as the Noles have only lost their first trio of game just once in the last 11 seasons entering 2018-19 (the 2015-16 season when the Noles lost to Clemson, North Carolina and Miami to start the season).
