FSU football has been the betting favorite in five of its six games this season and opens as a double-digit favorite against Wake Forest.

FSU football is coming off a loss against rival Miami two weeks ago but had a bye week to shake that off and focus on Wake Forest (3-3).

Hurricane Michael did force the Noles to switch some things around but Coach Willie Taggart said FSU football still got its three planned practices in.

The Noles have opened as betting favorites against every team they have faced except Miami.

They should have as they have been the more talented team across the board and that includes Miami. The Noles are vastly more talented than Wake Forest and have been, but these games have been one possession games the last two years.

FSU football is (2-4) against the spread, covering against Miami and Northern Illinois.

Oddsmakers have opened betting lines for FSU vs. Wake Forest at -10.5 points and that line is already down to 10 on a lot of betting sites.

Statistically FSU’s offense is worse than Wake Forest’s, but FSU’s defense statistically is far superior. One thing to consider is Wake Forest has faced a tougher slate of teams (No. 16) than FSU football (No. 66) in the first six games.

The over/under in the game is 60 so oddsmakers are thinking more of a 35-25 type game. FSU has scored over 30 points twice this season (Northern Illinois and Samford), but it should be noted Northern Illinois has a legit defense that’s ranked No. 11 in the nation.

Can Wake Forest score 25 points on FSU’s defense? It’s possible as they scored 27 against Notre Dame with three of those points coming off a Notre Dame fumble deep in their own territory.

Notre Dame’s defense is ranked No. 4 with FSU’s defense ranked No. 24, but I believe FSU’s defense would be ranked higher if they had any type of help from the offense with field position.

I wrote about the Wake Forest game being foreshadowing with what expect from the Noles in the second half. If the offense was going to show more progression and life, this would be the game for it to happen.

It’ll be interesting to see what the final number will be at the end of the week. I expect it could get to single digits by Saturday. The question is would you bet on the Noles at that point?
