FSU football enters the second half of its season this week by hosting Wake Forest on Saturday. We discuss why this game is foreshadowing of the second half.

FSU football is coming off a tough loss to rival Miami in a game they should have won but looks even worse now with the Canes losing to Virginia Saturday.

The Noles have had the bye week to let some injuries heal and see family members amid the destruction from Hurricane Michael.

Hopefully the bye week allowed that Miami loss to dissipate with focus shifting to a scrappy Wake Forest (3-3) team.

It’s a game FSU football absolutely has to win if they have any hopes of stretching their bowl streak to another year.

It’s also a game that should be a great measuring stick for the Noles. Other than roster talent, there isn’t much separating these two teams with FSU at No. 73 and Wake Forest at No. 79 in the S&P advanced metric rankings.

The biggest thing is Wake Forest has already played and been demolished by two teams FSU football has yet to face in Clemson and Notre Dame.

I’m most focused on FSU’s preparation for this Wake Forest game. How will they look in all there phases? Will they finally look like a semblance of a competent offense for all four quarters?

They should as the Wake Forest defense is allowing 6.66 yards per play on the season. Wake Forest is also allowing teams to rush for nearly six yards per rush.

Will the FSU defense come out and be physical and put pressure on an offense that’s turned the ball over 11 times?

The FSU football team has gotten progressively better, albeit in small increments since the Virginia Tech game. This game should be the game they come out and play close to how we expected them to look as a team prior to the season beginning.

They are the more talented team with time to prepare and will be playing at home for the first time in a while. Now, I’m not saying if they go out and crush Wake Forest we should expect the same against Clemson, NC State and Notre Dame.

However, a decisive win against Wake Forest would be progress from the norm of going life and death with less talented opposition.
