Kelvin Benjamin shared his feelings on the Carolina Panthers and former teammate Cam Newton a few days ago. They didn’t change when he got face-to-face with Newton.

Former FSU wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin was interviewed by the Athletic(subscription required) a few days ago and spoke on his time as a Carolina Panther and former teammate Cam Newton.

Benjamin was brutally honest with his thoughts which were not entirely wrong, but he probably could have gone about it in a better way.

The interview couldn’t have been published at a better time with the Carolina Panthers traveling to face the Buffalo Bills Thursday in their first preseason game of the year.

So Carolina Panther’s quarterback Cam Newton took the opportunity to approach Benjamin during pregame warm ups. Apparently he wanted to discuss the interview and Benjamin was having none of it.

Thoughts

Kelvin Benjamin is catching a lot of flack for how that whole scenario unfolded. A lot of people on social media are giving props to Cam Newton for approaching to Benjamin like a man to handle the situation.

I have to give props to Benjamin.

Cam Newton tried to dap him up and Benjamin refused right in his face, that’s keeping the same energy as he did in his interview. Had Benjamin dapped him up, then I think it would be appropriate to say Benjamin is fake or whatever.

The other thing is what’s Benjamin gonna do, fight Newton right there on the field a look like an idiot? He stopped and addressed Newton several times while looking him directly in the eyes.

Basically, he said all he had to say in the interview and doesn’t care to smooth it over with Newton.

Benjamin complained about Newton being an inaccurate quarterback in the interview right? The first play of the game saw Newton roll out to his right and over throw a wide open receiver 10 yards down field.

Then Kelvin Benjamin scored a 28 yard touchdown on Buffalo’s ensuing drive and was clearly fired up afterwards like he was trying to prove a point.

I have to give Newton props for addressing Benjamin face-to-face, but clearly there was nothing to discuss as Newton wasn’t going to say anything to change Benjamin’s mind about the situation.

Maybe Newton is still upset Benjamin caught the winning touchdown against his former college team to win a national championship?
