Alec Eberle co-signs ‘Noles new strength and conditioning program
By Kelvin Hunt
Senior offensive lineman Alec Eberle will be an important part of what determines how successful Willie Taggart will be in year one at FSU.
If there’s one FSU player that’s seen the highs and the lows of the FSU program during his time in Tallahassee its senior offensive lineman Alec Eberle.
Eberle enrolled in the 2014 recruiting class as a composite three star recruit. He redshirted during FSU’s yo-yo season of getting down almost every game before rallying back to win behind Jamies Winston and others before ultimately losing in the inaugural college football playoffs against Oregon.
The redshirt freshman saw playing time in 2015 with six starts before becoming a full-time starter the next two seasons.
He had mixed results and was often criticized by fans and media(including moi) during the 2016, unbeknownst to all he played the entire year with some serious lower body injuries that required surgery.
After a better 2017 it seems Eberle is poised to have his best year yet and it couldn’t come at a better time with a new offense centered around the run game.
He took to social media Monday to applaud his progress under new strength and conditioning Coach Irele Oderinde:
Thoughts
I wrote on social media this “speaks volumes” about where FSU was regarding strength and conditioning with the old regime.
Alec Eberle is a redshirt senior who’s excited about reaching milestones in the weight room he never thought he’d reach.
Think about it. Not a redshirt freshman, but a redshirt senior folks. As a former college athlete, It’s difficult to keep players engaged the longer they are in the program.
Coaches have to constantly find new ways to motivate players as they get older and/or work around injuries. It’s common for players to applaud change in among strength and conditioning coaches.
However, the numbers don’t lie when it comes to what the players have accomplished since Coach Oderinde’s arrival.
Players like Marvin Wilson that needed to lose weight have done so and kept it off even while injured. Quarterback James Blackman has put on nearly 20 pounds since December.
Brian Burns and others look like they come straight out of a comic book with muscles popping everywhere.

I think we’ll see a major difference in physicality among FSU players and one of the most important pieces will be Alec Eberle at center.
