FSU Football: Virginia Tech creates weak hype video for game vs. Noles
By Jason Parker
FSU football is still over two months from the season opener against the Hokies, but the men in maroon put together a video short on highlight options.
For the 37th time in the history of FSU football, the Seminoles will play a game against the Virginia Tech Hokies when the teams meet on Labor Day in the first meeting between the schools in a season opener. It’s a game that both teams know is beyond important if either one has any hopes of making it to the ACC title game this season.
While the teams have met just five times since the Hokies joined the ACC during the 2004 season, the Seminoles and Va. Tech were two of biggest name independent programs for years and have a history – meeting for 20 straight seasons between 1961 and 1980 and again for four straight seasons before FSU football joined the ACC in the 1992 season.
Ahead of the season opener, the Hokies created a hype video showing what they said were some of the big plays from the series between the two. Watch it and we’ll explain the problem after.
Okay, so what’s the problem? Well, with the exception of two plays showing Michael Vick from the 1999 season title game, all the plays were from two games out of a 36 game series. With FSU football holding a commanding 23-12-1 lead in the series and having won 14 of the last 16 meetings, the Hokies don’t have much to brag about when playing the Noles.
With the limited catalog of highlights against Florida State to pick from, those behind this video should have just taken a knee on the whole process and kept quiet until this season’s game.
But, in the spirit of niceness at Chop Chat, we’ll help the folks out with some other highlights between the Seminoles and Hokies for their next video – like Peter Warrick getting his third touchdown in amazing fashion in that title game over Vick and the Hokies.
Or, how about Rashad Green with the fourth quarter touchdown catch that put FSU football on top during the 2012 season in Blacksburg?
Maybe they could use the video of Willie Reid and the 7-4 Seminoles beating the fifth ranked Hokies to win the inaugural ACC Championship Game.

The Hokies have gotten their share of wins in the series – with almost all of them coming before Bobby Bowden stepped on campus over four decades ago. FSU football owns this series and those in maroon and orange need to recognize that.
