FSU Football: Noles punter has fun with Taggart comments on 4th downs
By Jason Parker
The new FSU football leader had some people’s attention with his comments during a recent stop – but his left footed punter took them all in stride.
Toward the end of the tenure of the previous head coach for FSU football, there was a general frustration from the fan base in garnet and gold that the play calling had become predictable for the most part and there was absolutely no effort being done to take a chance and a risk once in a while.
One of those was the idea that going for it on fourth down was akin to having the plague and should never be done. I’m not saying that you should go for it on 4th and eight, but when you are a foot away from a first down and you have a quarterback that is 6’4″ or taller it’s okay to go for it once in a while.
While FSU football attempted the least number of fourth downs of late, things are about to change under new head coach Willie Taggart – who said as much during his recent coach’s tour stop in Tampa.
It was something that got the attention of both those in attendance and those who read about it online – both those applauding the move and those worried that Taggart and the coaching staff are going to go for it on every single fourth down the Seminoles are in (something that I myself HIGHLY doubt will be the case.)
Someone who had a little fun with it was the man who would find himself on the field less if tis is the case, Seminoles punter Logan Tyler. The rising junior took to social media and delivered a one emoji response that summed up the whole thing.
His former long snapper, Stephen Gabbard, couldn’t help but have some fun with the idea.
Look, there is no doubt that the new offensive scheme under Taggart is going to be light years different from what we saw during the end of the last administration. That being said, there is no reason to think that FSU football is going to look like a video game where the Seminoles are going for it whether it’s 4th and one or 4th and 47 yards to go.

So, don’t worry just yet, Logan – you are still going to be a valuable piece of the Noles for your final two seasons in Tallahassee.
