Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

On a cool weekend in the northeast part of the country, the FSU baseball team had a game that they shouldn’t have had to work that hard to win, a historical moment for the program playing in one of sport’s biggest stadiums and maybe their best win of the season to complete a series sweep that was much needed.

Now, head coach Mike Martin and his team stay on the road for a midweek game needing another win to keep their longtime head coach on pace to make his own history this coming weekend against a hated foe.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and the Stetson Hatters.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

FSU baseball started off their three game series against Boston College in a big way as the bats came alive to the tune of a 10-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Eagles fixed all that with seven runs over the final three innings to send the game into extras. In the 11th inning, the Seminoles put three runs up and held BC to two in the bottom of the inning for a 13-12 victory.

Saturday, it was off to Fenway Park for the first game ever in a Major League stadium for the Seminoles. Boston College jumped out to the early lead before the Seminoles – led by a three RBI day from Cobi Johnson – put seven runs up in the fifth and sixth innings and cruised to a 13-7 win.

Sunday, the Eagles again got on the board first win a third inning run before FSU baseball scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning and added two more later to complete the series sweep over the slumping men from Massachusetts by a score of 6-1.

Opponent Preview

The third and final game of the 2018 series between the Seminoles and Haters takes place one week after the Noles took two in Tallahassee – a 4-0 victory and an 18-10 slugfest. Since then, Stetson improved their record to 30-11 on the season by taking two out of three against NJIT last weekend on the road.

For the season, the Hatters are just batting .245 as a team at the plate, but their strength is on the mound where the pitching staff has a combined ERA of 2.74 and is holding opposing batters to just a .202 batting average on the season.

Interesting Fact

Tuesday’s game will be another chance for outfielder Steven Wells to continue what was an amazing week at the plate in the five games FSU baseball played against the Hatters and Eagles. In 24 at bats, the senior from Key West reached base safely on 22 of those trips – 14 hits, six walks and two by errors – while setting the school record of hitting safely in 12 straight at bats and jumping his batting average from .195 on the year to .298 entering this week.
