FSU football is finding themselves sitting pretty in the eyes of Kayvon Thibodeaux, the top ranked player in the entire 2019 class after last weekend.

Last weekend in Tallahassee was surely a great time to be associated with the FSU football program: a spring football weekend that showed a revitalized program with a record setting crowd of nearly 61,000 people in the stands – not to mention the hundreds of former players who came out for the action and the dozens of top recruits that watched the Noles play the Noles.

There may have not been a bigger name on the recruiting front that Kayvon Thibodeaux, a five star defensive end from Southern California who is ranked as the top player in the country by 247 sports. After taking a visit the weekend before to visit with the defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide, Thibodeaux made FSU football his next spot in time for the spring fun.

While nothing is written in stone, the Seminoles are looking better in his eyes after the weekend.

Thibodeaux detailed his time in Tallahassee for a blog he is writing for USA Today High School Sports, giving his time with the Seminoles the highest grade he could – even after losing his wallet, having the flight delayed and having to drive from Jacksonville over to the Florida State campus.

"When I got there the players were watching film and I went to the locker room and took pics with all the gear on and everything. I met with all of the coaches plus Jameis Winston was there, Deion Sanders was there and a few other guys. That was cool to see everyone! On Saturday we got started early with a campus tour and I met the President of the school and the academic advisors. I really liked that part. Then we went to the spring game and that was pretty wild! I loved to see their fans do that Tomohawk chop! That’s a crazy thing to see.Me and my mom had some great talks with the coaching staff too. I would definitely give the visit a 10 out of 10."

That bright smile you can see coming from Tallahassee is head coach Willie Taggart and the rest of the FSU football coaching staff knowing that if they can get any player onto campus, the school and tradition and future will sell itself (Thiodeaux also said he loved the throwback concert, so make sure we’ve got Montell Jordan, Coolio and others on retainer for an official visit.)

The California native gave his Alabama visit nine out of 10 and still has one this weekend at Oregon – adding in a previous blog that he hopes to narrow his finalist down by summer, make official visits and decide at next January’s Army All-American Game.

With a 3.7 GPA, Thibodeaux doesn’t have to worry about being academically eligible and can get in anywhere he wants. According to 247 Sports’ projections, FSU football is now rated as second behind USC as far as predictions where he will land – so if Taggart can get on that official list, the Seminoles stand a decent chance of cementing the top class in 2019.
