FSU Football: Khalan Laborn throws shade at former coaches after spring game
By Jason Parker
FSU football saw plenty of skill in the former five star running back during the spring game – and he wasn’t shy about his thoughts on what took so long.
When the 2018 edition of the FSU football spring game was in the books, there was plenty of star studded performances from players who didn’t get to see much of the field last season for the Seminoles. Wide receives like Tamorrion Terry and Deonte Sheffield at big days while a former five star running back had one of the biggest plays of the spring.
But I’m not talking about Cam Akers, who ran for over 1,000 last season as a freshman, or Jacques Patrick, who came back for his senior season – no, I’m speaking of a man who was the top all purpose back in the 2017 class but was buried on the sideline in Tallahassee as he redshirted during the season.
Now, Khalan Laborn has a new found love for the FSU football program – and showed that he isn’t just going to conceded a starting roster spot to Akers, Patrick or anyone else in the running back room for the Seminoles.
Of his 140 yards on the day, nearly two thirds of them came on a 91 yard touchdown run that got the people out of their seats inside Doak Campbell Stadium to see that there is another great running back in the stable.
After the game, Labron was the man of the hour with people finally getting a chance to see what he can do – and in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, the Virginia native and former Under Armour All-American Game MVP took a slight shot at the previous coaches who chose to redshirt him last year.
"“It was frustrating,” the redshirt freshman said. “I don’t really talk about the past, but I’m just glad we got a new coaching staff to show what all of us can do and not just certain people.”"
Dang, shots fired on that one!
Okay, to be fair somewhat to the old FSU football staff, you can’t really fault them for having Akers – who was arguably the best running back in the entire class – and a former five star in Patrick as the top two backs. I mean, you really can’t go wrong with any of the three has your top two options.
That being said, those former “leaders” were big during their time of playing certain players a lot of the time and once you got in the dog house or once they liked a certain player, that person was going to play for the Seminoles and it was hard to over take them. With Willie Taggart as the helm and the new Gulf Coast offense installed, there will be a lot more room for Laborn to get looks.

Translation: whether it is Cam Akers, Jacques Patrick or Khalan Laborn in the backfield (with Amir Rasul coming off the bench), FSU football is doing just fine at running back for the 2018 season and beyond.
