FSU football will be honoring two of the best to play for the Seminoles in the last three decades during the upcoming season.

When the history books are written about FSU football, two of the top names that are going to be mentioned will be former wide receiver Peter Warrick – one of the best at his position in the history of the game – and defensive tackle Odell Haggins, who should be called Mr. Seminole for his commitment to the program as a player and a coach.

During the 2018 season, the Noles will be honoring both of these legends as it was announced on Friday. Warrick will have his famous No. 9 retired, the same one he wore during the 1999 national championship season, while Haggins will be inducted in the 2018 class for the school’s athletic Hall of Fame.

Both men found out about the honors at the end of Friday’s spring practice.

From 1996 until 1999, Warrick was the main target of the FSU football offense and was arguably one of the best playmakers in the entire game. He finished his time in Tallahassee as a two time All-American, over 3,200 yards receiving (including over 1,200 as a junior) with 32 touchdowns – and will be remembered for a magical Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech with 163 yards and two total touchdowns

Haggins was an All-American for FSU football before heading to the NFL in 1990. He returned to the program in 1994 as an assistant and has stuck around ever since – including being named the interim coach for two games last season, retiring with a perfect 2-0 record before being the only assistant retained by new head coach Willie Taggart.

A clearly emotional Haggins reminded this year’s FSU football team that it’s about the spear on that helmet and the team as a whole during his remarks after the decision was announced.

Officials have not released information on when both ceremonies will take place – though, traditionally the Hall of Fame class is enshrined during one of the first FSU football weekends of the season. Don’t be surprised if Warrick is honored during the first game of the season – when the Seminoles host that Hokies team he torched nearly two decades ago.
