FSU football has always had a full time hater in Miami superfan and former rap legend Luther Campbell – but the cameras show he might be a closer FSU fan.

For much of the last three decades, the rivalry between the FSU Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes has been one of the best in college football. In the last 35 seasons, the schools have combined for eight national titles and have played for six more while sending countless players to the NFL and proving who two of the most dominant teams in the sport are.

It also has created plenty of smack talk between those in garnet and gold and those in orange and green that spans the entire state. From ‘Canes fans who populate the city of Tallahassee to the large amount of alumni in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, it’s a not stop back and forth every single day.

One of the biggest smack talkers on the Miami side has been former 2 Live Crew lead singer Luther Campbell – who, like most Miami fans, probably can’t find Coral Gables on a map but acts like he’s got three degrees from the school. Campbell has gotten in back and forth battles with former FSU players and coaches even when the Hurricanes dropped from being relevant.

However, thanks to advancements in social media and photography, we have evidence that deep down inside the man some call Uncle Luke (I prefer Grandpa Luke since he hasn’t been relevant in the rap game for decades, but I digress) is a closet FSU fan who wants the Seminoles to succeed.

During a recent Nike coaches clinic in the Orlando area, Campbell made sure to post his encounter with Seminoles head coach Willie Taggart while wide receivers coach David Kelly had a little fun on social media for all to see.

It’s too late, Grandpa Luke…there is no room on the FSU football bandwagon for you. I guess you’re going to have to stick to the once relevant Hurricanes – I mean, the law of averages says they have to win a conference championship sometime this century, right?

All kidding aside for a second, Campbell has been one of the most influential people in the pop warner and high school football game in Miami’s inner city communities for decades now. While I’m sure he would love his players to get full rides and education to Miami, Campbell wants his players with the Liberty City Warriors to go to any college where they can play ball and, more importantly, get that degree.

Campbell has helped FSU football land several players over the years, most notably running back Devonta Freeman, and has built relationships with coaches that include Seminoles assistants like Telly Lockette – who coached Freeman and Dalvin Cook while at Miami Central High School.

If you see Grandpa Luke around South Florida – at an early bird dinner, shuffleboard tournament or even arts and crafts time at a senior center – make sure to chop it up for him. He may try and throw up a U once in a while, but deep down we all know he wishes he could be a FSU fan.
