Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2018 baseball season.

If the FSU baseball team is going to get back to Omaha and the College World Series, they needed to have a good start to the season and build momentum that will lead them through June. The Seminoles and head coach Mike Martin did just that as the opening of the season couldn’t have gone much better for the Noles than it did.

Now, the Seminoles get back on the field with their first midweek game of the season – a showdown with a team that helped to continue the rocky start to last season that Martin and the Noles had to overcome.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and the South Florida Bulls.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

The action started this past weekend for the Seminoles as begun the latest campaign by welcoming the Xavier Musketeers for a three game set. Friday was all FSU baseball as they scored five runs in the first three innings, adding four runs in the sixth inning en route to an 11-1 victory.

JC Flowers and Reese Albert each had two RBI’s while starting pitcher Tyler Holton was taken out in the fifth inning, but his injury is not expected to keep him out for extended time.

Saturday’s game saw the Musketeers get two first inning runs before the Seminoles took control and scored seven straight to get the win with Cole Sands and Austin Pollack combining for 14 strikeouts in the game. On Sunday, the Seminoles got five runs in the first three innings – including a two run double by Cal Raleigh to pace the way for a 5-1 victory and series sweep.

Opponent Preview

USF made some noise in their season opener against No. 6 North Carolina, scoring four runs and holding on for a 4-3 victory. Saturday was how the other half lives with the Tar Heels jumping out to a ten run lead and holding on for a 12-5 win. On Sunday, the Bulls scored seven runs in the seventh inning, but dropped a 10-9 decision in extra innings.

Interesting Fact

While the Seminoles own a comfortable 71-16 all time series lead over the Bulls, it’s the last game between the teams that hurts as South Florida came to Tallahassee in the first full week of the 2017 season and upset the Seminoles for a 4-2 win that was USF’s first win over FSU baseball in nearly three decades (1989) and just their fifth all time win inside Dick Howser Stadium.
