FSU Recruiting: 2018 class features equal attention on both sides of ball
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU recruiting is doing a great job of addressing needs on both sides of the ball for 2018.
FSU recruiting is coming down the home stretch with National Signing Day taking place tomorrow and the ‘Noles looking to close strong with four or five more additions to the class.
Willie Taggart has 16 commitments in the fold and amazingly has equal distribution among the class regarding offensive and defensive players.
Let’s take a look:
- Jaiden Woodbey-Defense
- Amari Gainer-Defense
- Christian Armstrong-Offense
- Anthony Lytton-Defense
- Asante Samuel Jr.-Defense
- Robert Cooper-Defense
- Isaiah Bolden-Defense
- Warren Thompson-Offense
- Xavier Peters-Defense
- Camren McDonald-Offense
- Christian Meadows-Offense
- Dennis Briggs-Defense
- D’Marcus Adams-Offense
- Jalen Goss-Offense
- Keyshawn Helton-Offense
- Chaz Neal-Offense(listed at DE, but will play OL)
That’s eight players on offense and eight players on defense in the class. As I mentioned, FSU recruiting is posed to take four or five more players Wednesday and they break down like this:
- James Foster-Offense
- Tre’Shaun Harrison-Offense
- Malcolm Lamar-Defense
- James Miller-Defense
- Jordan Young-Offense
Thoughts
I’m not 100 percent sure FSU recruiting lands all five of these players. I feel really strong about three of them and the other two could change like the wind.
If they were to land all five it would still be almost equal distribution on offense and defense in the class.
Of course, all recruiting classes are different based on size, need, attrition from the team itself and how many quality players actually want in the class. This recruiting class had a big need at wide receiver and why you’re going to see FSU potentially enroll five wide receivers.
They had a need at linebacker and will look to take up to three in this class. Willie Taggart is showing all the signs you’d like to see in putting a great recruiting class together.

He’s addressing needs with quality players without taking a lot of questionable players to fill out the class. National Signing Day won’t be as hyped due to the early signing period, but FSU could still make a splash with its remaining targets.
