FSU basketball saw their double digit lead evaporate in the final minutes Saturday, but survived to get an important win over the Hokies.

After what could be described as an embarrassing loss earlier this week against Boston College (where have we heard that one before), the FSU basketball team continued their week long road trip Saturday with a game that is a summary of the season so far for the most part – with the Seminoles jumping out to a big lead and holding on for dear life.

What was at one point a 14 point lead for the Noles in the second half was cut down to less than half of that, but Florida State escaped their showdown with the Virginia Tech Hokies to get a 91-82 win after losing four of their past six games, all in ACC play.

The Hokies jumped out to the early lead before C.J. Walker gave FSU basketball their first lead of the game – a lead they wouldn’t give back – with back-to-back three pointers with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half, part of an 11 point game for him.

M.J. Walker would come off the bench and add a layup with 4:35 to go that gave the Seminoles their biggest first half lead, at eight points, before the Hokies cut the deficit to three points at the break.

Walker would again be the man for the Noles has he scored even straight points to give Florida State that 14 point lead with under 12 minutes to go in the game. FSU basketball would keep a double digit lead until the Hokies cut it to nine points with just under four minutes to go – before Walker’s steal and bucket gave the Seminoles a nine point lead and 24 points on the game for him.

The Hokies’ Justin Robinson would score two of his game high 26 points with a layup that cut the lead to five points with 22 seconds left, but the Seminoles hit four late free throws to put the game away and pull the team to 14-5 on the season (3-4 in the ACC).
