FSU football recruiting added another blue chip commitment to its 2018 class Saturday afternoon.

FSU football recruiting was looking for momentum heading down the home stretch for National Signing Day next month.

It received the boost it was looking for Saturday afternoon when four-star tight end Camren McDonald announced his commitment.

McDonald is the 11th player in the class and is the No. 292 ranked player nationally. He’s the No. 15 ranked tight end and No. 40 ranked player in the state of California.

Yep, the #westsidenole movement is a real thing under Willie Taggart as this is the second player from the west coast in this class along with five-star safety Jaiden Woodbey who’s enrolled this month.

According to Woodbey, there are two more players from the west coast he thinks will be in this class as well.

Fans were excited to see the commitment from McDonald too.

Thoughts

Camren McDonald should be an excellent addition to the class as he’s a talent kid but he also fits a huge need for the ‘Noles. The departure of Ryan Izzo and Mavin Saunders leaves little experience with Tre McKitty, Pops Upshur and Alexander Marshall as the tight ends.

McDonald is 6’4″ 210 pounds and is similar to McKitty was who also the No. 15 ranked tight end in the country in the 2017 recruiting class.

McDonald looks like he should be able to stretch defenses and should be a capable blocker once he adds a few pounds coupled with his length.

This addition moves FSU football up from No. 34 to No. 27 in the national rankings. Again, the ‘Noles won’t take a huge class this recruiting cycle. It’s quality over quantity and the average per player ranking is 92.21 which is outstanding.

The ‘Noles are just behind Clemson who checks in at 92.81 when it comes to quality of player average.

I expect the ‘Noles to land about nine or 10 more players and finish top 15 or higher. Welcome to the FSU football family Camren!
