FSU football has a new member on board to help Willie Taggart get the ‘Noles back on track.

A lot of FSU football fans were beginning to worry Willie Taggart was taking a while to piece his FSU staff together when coaches hired elsewhere had already begun the process.

Taggart couldn’t hire anyone because coaches from Jimbo Fisher’s staff are contractually obligated through the bowl unless they decide to leave for another job.

We talked about former tight ends’ coach Tim Brewster joining Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M a couple of days ago.

That opening has allowed Taggart to make his first official hire in former Oregon State running back’s coach Telly Lockette.

Lockette worked with Taggart while at USF and is known for his work with former ‘Noles Devonta Freeman and Dalvin Cook while at Miami Northwestern high school.

Thoughts

The last tweet is everything as Lockette is a very good hire, and more importantly has strong ties to south Florida recruiting.

Miami has put more emphasis on  that area under Mark Richt the last two years, so having someone like Lockette coupled with Taggart is a dynamic duo.

According to Bruce Feldman’s Twitter account, Lockette will replace Tim Brewster as the FSU tight end’s coach although he coached running backs at Oregon State.

The great news is Lockette can coach multiple positions if need be, so the ‘Noles replace an ace recruiter with an ace recruiter.

Taggart will make additional hires, but it’s a time thing with the bowl games that have to be played with others working elsewhere.

In the meantime, Taggart has been on the road recruiting non-stop and locked up almost all of the commitments he wanted from Jimbo Fisher class. I expect some commitments to drop this weekend while FSU hosts several players on campus.
