FSU football improved to (2-3) on the season with the 17-10 win over Duke. It was the ‘Noles second road win and second win in the state of North Carolina in which they had to bat down a hail mary pass to secure the win on the last play.
It’s the second time this season a win has felt more like a loss.
The FSU offense played well for the most part as James Blackman, Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick had productive days. However, Blackman threw two interceptions that cost the ‘Noles opportunities to put points on the board.
Despite only giving up 10 points, most of the fans angst seemed to be toward the FSU defense who continues to look bewildered on second and third and long plays.
A win is a win but FSU fans are not happy with how the team is performing:
Thoughts
The FSU offense looks closer to being back than the FSU defense which is crazy considering all the injuries and youth with big rolls on offense. Cam Akers and Jacques Patrick had amazing days running the ball and Blackman was excellent aside from the two interceptions.
Also, Blackman was only sacked twice on the day which is progress against an active front seven.
Logan Tyler had another great day of punting.
Some of the calls by Charles Kelly and this defense were atrocious. The effort by a few of the players was unacceptable, namely Tarvarus McFadden and Nyqwan Murray.
McFadden isn’t playing near the same level as he did last season. He’s passive against the run and the pass and him not catching punts is costing FSU field position every week.
Murray cost the ‘Noles a touchdown by allowing a defender to tackle him one on one with the whole field at his disposal.

If the FSU defense could clean up situational aspects of the game that would help a ton. FSU football will host Louisville next week and look to get to .500 on the season while getting revenge for the worst loss in their history against Louisville in 2016.
