FSU football is on a collision course with the CFB Playoff in 2017 according to most projections – including the latest from the Worldwide Leader.

Three seasons ago, FSU football was concluding their year with a  trip to Pasadena for the second straight season – this time, the Seminoles were taking part in the inaugural College Football Playoff system one year after defeating Auburn in the same Rose Bowl stadium for the program’s third national title.

The outcome in the sequel was not what the Noles wanted, and the last two seasons have seen the Seminoles make it to a New Years Six bowl game but not quite be able to make it back to the playoff system. For 2017, many early projections have Florida State getting back to being one of the four teams selected – most likely heading back to Pasadena once again.

You can add ESPN to that list, as they released their latest FPI rankings this week and have FSU football still being one of the top four teams with less than two months to go until the season kicks off.

You can find the complete list here, but below is a look at the top four as well as some teams of interest for fans of the Seminoles in the top 25:

"No. 1 – Ohio StateNo. 2 – AlabamaNo. 3 – FLORIDA STATENo. 4 – OklahomaNo. 6 – ClemsonNo. 14 – FloridaNo. 15 – MiamiNo. 17 – LouisvilleNo. 22 – N.C. State"

Two things that pop out for most fans of the Seminoles would be this: first, if these standings are what actually take place, the Crimson Tide and Noles would have to both travel across the country for their rematch as the CFB Playoff rules stipulate the higher rated teams plays closer to home – meaning the Buckeyes would host the Sooners in the Sugar Bowl.

Second, notice that three of FSU football’s first four opponents are ranked in the top 25 of this poll to start the season. If the Seminoles want to even sniff the College Football Playoff at the end of the season, they are going to have to do major work before the month of September comes to an end.
