FSU football has had plenty of great wins under Jimbo Fisher – here’s a look at one of the 10 best during his time as head coach.

In seven seasons as the head coach for FSU football, Jimbo Fisher has led the Seminoles on the field and left it victorious 78 times. Those wins have involved victories over hated rivals, conference foes and national powers to go along with big bowl victories, conference titles and the third national title in program history.

While some have been easier than others, there have been dozens that have been memorable for fans of the Seminoles – whether it was who they beat, what it meant or even the time of the season it took place. Over his seven seasons in Tallahassee as the headman, Fisher has averaged more wins per season than any other coach in FSU football history – including the legendary Bobby Bowden.

So, which of the wins have been the best? Which are the ones that stand out above all the others when you look at the first years of the Jimbo Fisher era? We took a look at all the wins and ranked them up just for you. Without further ado, here’s another one of the top 10 wins for FSU football under Fisher.

No. 3 – October 8, 2016 at Miami (W 20-19)

All of us remember all the hype that surrounded FSU football at the start of the 2016 season. An opening weekend win against Ole Miss had the Seminoles ranked as high as number two nationally. All of it came crashing down after losses to Louisville and North Carolina, leaving the Noles with a 3-2 record as they traveled to take on an undefeated Hurricanes team ranked in the top 10 and desperate to break their losing streak to the Noles.

Early on, it looked like the Seminoles were in trouble and Miami – who had lost the previous two games in the rivalry by just nine combined points – was going to get the win as they scored the first 13 points. Just before the half, Florida State got on the board as Ricky Aguayo – who made a national name with six kicks in the opener against the Rebels but hadn’t shown the same consistency as his brother Roberto – kicked a 31-yard field goal through the uprights and got FSU on the board.

The second half would be, as many games have been under Fisher, where locker room adjustments showed up. The defense bailed things out when Tarvarus McFadden picked off Brad Kaaya in the end zone. That led to Dalvin Cook – who had 154 yards on the ground – somehow being wide open for a 59-yard touchdown pass.

Later in the quarter, Deondre Francois – who had been knocked out of the game earlier from a hard hit – found Kermit Whitfield for the go ahead touchdown. Aguayo would add another field goal in the fourth quarter to give FSU football a seven-point lead – which would be huge for one reason.

With less than two minutes to go, Kaaya hit Stacy Coley for an 11-yard touchdown over McFadden. It was than that DeMarcus Walker – who was part of a maligned defense that played maybe their best game of the year against a quality opponent – got his paw up and blocked the extra point.
