No. 7 – November 27, 2010 vs. Florida (W 31-7)

When the Seminoles and Gators took the field on a cool Tallahassee afternoon, both the players on the field and the fans in the stands knew what was going on. This game was just two days short of being seven calendar years from the last time FSU football had beaten their rivals – a losing streak that those in Garnet and Gold were aching to end and do so in an impressive fashion.

Things started well for the Seminoles, as they struck first for a quick field goal and the lead. It would be a short lived celebration as the Gators returned the ensuing kickoff 62 yards and struck just over a minute and a half later to take the 7-3 lead. It would be their final points as the FSU offense and defense woke up. FSU would force turnovers on three straight drives – two fumbles and a fourth down stop – with the last two leading to a touchdown run by Lonnie Pryor and a touchdown pass from Christian Ponder to Rodney Smith.

Ponder would find Taiwan Easterling before halftime and the route was on. The second half started just as well with a nearly six minute drive that ended with Ponder finding Willie Haulstead for the final points of the game. FSU football turned things over to their defense, which allowed just 64 passing yards and 276 total for the game along with two sacks by Brandon Jenkins, an interception by Mike Harris and a total of three fumble recoveries to set off a celebration that was over a half decade in the making.

The night would also be sweet as the Seminoles were walking off the field, turning to the Doak Campbell Stadium scoreboard to see they were the champions of the ACC Atlantic for the first time since 2005 and were heading to the conference title game. The night started a stranglehold on the Gators in this decade that Florida State hasn’t seen in the history of the series – one those in Garnet and Gold love every moment of.
