FSU football has had plenty of great wins under Jimbo Fisher – here’s a look at one of the 10 best during his time as head coach.

In seven seasons as the head coach for FSU football, Jimbo Fisher has led the Seminoles on the field and left it victorious 78 times. Those wins have involved victories over hated rivals, conference foes and national powers to go along with big bowl victories, conference titles and the third national title in program history.

While some have been easier than others, there have been dozens that have been memorable for fans of the Seminoles – whether it was who they beat, what it meant or even the time of the season it took place. Over his seven seasons in Tallahassee as the headman, Fisher has averaged more wins per season than any other coach in FSU football history – including the legendary Bobby Bowden.

So, which of the wins have been the best? Which are the ones that stand out above all the others when you look at the first years of the Jimbo Fisher era? We took a look at all the wins and ranked them up just for you. Without further ado, here’s another one of the top 10 wins for FSU football under Fisher.

No. 8 – September 5, 2016 vs. Ole Miss (W 45-34)

During his time as head coach of FSU football, Jimbo Fisher has seen the Seminoles play their share of tough non-conference games. In addition to the yearly battle with Florida, teams like Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State and BYU have found their way on the schedule. Last season, the No. 4 ranked Seminoles opened the year in Orlando against a Rebels team ranked No. 11 and desperate to prove they belonged with the big boys in this ACC-SEC showdown.

Things could not have gone worse over the first 29 minutes of action. The men from Oxford could do no wrong as they complied 312 yards of offense, scored 28 points and made Florida State look overrated to start the season. Only two Ricky Aguayo field goals were on the board for the Seminoles when Deondre Francois – making his first ever start – hit Travis Rudolph for a touchdown with 28 seconds in the half to cut the deficit to 28-13.

The second half might have been the best 30 minutes of football in the program’s history. The Seminoles outscored the Rebels 32-6 with Francois throwing another touchdown (part of a 419 yard night), Freddie Stevenson and Kermit Whitfield getting rushing scores, Dalvin Cook had over 200 combined yards and Aguayo connecting on four more kicks to set the single game record. The defense? Well, they gave up just 68 yards in the half, had five sacks (four and a half by DeMarcus Walker) and three interceptions to redeem themselves.

The win gave FSU football fans confidence that this team could make a run to the College Football Playoff. Losses in the next four games to Louisville and North Carolina quickly derailed that, but the Seminoles realized they had plenty of young talent that will hopefully lead them to titles in the coming seasons.
