FSU football has had plenty of great wins under Jimbo Fisher – here’s a look at one of the 10 best during his time as head coach.
In seven seasons as the head coach for FSU football, Jimbo Fisher has led the Seminoles on the field and left it victorious 78 times. Those wins have involved victories over hated rivals, conference foes and national powers to go along with big bowl victories, conference titles and the third national title in program history.
While some have been easier than others, there have been dozens that have been memorable for fans of the Seminoles – whether it was who they beat, what it meant or even the time of the season it took place. Over his seven seasons in Tallahassee as the headman, Fisher has averaged more wins per season than any other coach in FSU football history – including the legendary Bobby Bowden.
So, which of the wins have been the best? Which are the ones that stand out above all the others when you look at the first years of the Jimbo Fisher era? We took a look at all the wins and ranked them up just for you. Without further ado, here’s another one of the top 10 wins for FSU football under Fisher.
No. 9 – November 2, 2013 vs. Miami (W 41-14)
During his first three seasons in Tallahassee, Fisher had the joy of not knowing what defeat was like at the hands of the rival Hurricanes. So far, it hadn’t even really been close, as the Seminoles had won all three meetings – including two on the road – by an average of 15 points. This game, on paper, was going to be different as both teams came in undefeated and ranked in the top 10 at the same point for the first time since the 2003 season.
As things got started, the Seminoles couldn’t really shake their foes from South Florida, as Miami stuck with Florida State for much of the first half. Jameis Winston threw two interceptions and, after Miami native Devonta Freeman got the first touchdown for FSU, Miami tied the game at seven. James Wilder added a touchdown run and Freeman took one in on a pass from Winston, but the Hurricanes got in the end zone with less than 30 seconds to go to cut the deficit to seven.
That would be as lose as the ‘Canes would get, as the second half belonged to FSU football. Wilder and Freeman each added another touchdown run (giving Freeman 176 total yards and three touchdowns), while the defense picked off two passes, sacked Stephen Morris twice and held Miami’s high powered offense to just 275 yards all game. Two Roberto Aguayo kicks in the fourth quarter put the finishing touches on FSU’s second win of 27 points or more in the series in the last four seasons.

Since this game, the Seminoles have continued what has become a tie for the longest winning streak in their history against the Hurricanes. While the last three games have all been decided by a combined 10 points, this might have been Miami’s best chance of them all to win – and they couldn’t get it done against a FSU football team that went on to win the national title.
