FSU football has had plenty of great wins under Jimbo Fisher – here’s a look at one of the 10 best during his time as head coach.

In seven seasons as the head coach for FSU football, Jimbo Fisher has led the Seminoles on the field and left it victorious 78 times. Those wins have involved victories over hated rivals, conference foes and national powers to go along with big bowl victories, conference titles and the third national title in program history.

While some have been easier than others, there have been dozens that have been memorable for fans of the Seminoles – whether it was who they beat, what it meant or even the time of the season it took place. Over his seven seasons in Tallahassee as the headman, Fisher has averaged more wins per season than any other coach in FSU football history – including the legendary Bobby Bowden.

So, which of the wins have been the best? Which are the ones that stand out above all the others when you look at the first years of the Jimbo Fisher era? We took a look at all the wins and ranked them up just for you. Without further ado, here’s another one of the top 10 wins for FSU football under Fisher.

No. 10 – November 8, 2010 at Virginia Tech (W 28-22)

For his first two seasons in Tallahassee, Fisher had been doing a good job – but the Seminoles still had four losses each of those years and some began to wonder if things were going to turn the corner for FSU football. Entering this Thursday night game in one of the toughest places to play in the ACC, the Noles stood at 8-1 with a ranking of No. 6 and the only loss coming by one point at N.C. State earlier in the year.

As it turned out, the Seminoles would need every second of this game to come out with a victory. The Hokies defense lived up to the hype, intercepting an E.J. Manuel pass in the first half and holding Florida State to minus 15 yards rushing for the entire game while sacking Manuel five times. With Virginia Tech holding on to a 10-6 lead and less than a minute to go in the first half, Manuel found Rashad Green for the score and a three-point lead at the half.

Manuel opened the second half with a touchdown pass to Greg Dent, but Virginia Tech would score 12 unanswered points – including a safety when Devonta Freeman was called for a penalty in his own end zone – and FSU football went into a two minute mode that culminated with Manuel finding Green again for a 39 yard score. When Tyler Hunter intercepted a Hokies pass on the ensuing drive, the Noles escaped Blacksburg, VA with the victory.

It was a win that gave Florida State a share of the ACC Atlantic Division title, which they would win the following week at Maryland, as well as a 9-1 record – their best through 10 games since the 2000 season. It was also one of the first big road wins for Fisher during his time in Tallahassee.
