FSU football seems to have a legit chance at Taron Vincent – one of the top recruits in the entire 2018 class and a strong lean toward Ohio State.

With just under 11 months to go until the 2018 edition of National Signing Day, FSU football seems to have the workings in place to land another top class – something they have done almost every season under head coach Jimbo Fisher.

One of the areas where the Seminoles seem to be shining is when it comes to legacy players from both Florida State and from the sport of football in general. Right now, they are still the strong favorite to keep committed running back James Cook (the younger brother of Dalvin) and seem to be in the running to land up to three South Florida defensive backs who have dads with major college and NFL resumes.

Now, it appears FSU football is making a strong push – and making progress with it – for another NFL legacy recruit who is one of the top players in next year’s class.

Taron Vincent, a five star defensive tackle who is currently ranked as a top 15 player from 247 Sports in the entire class and the number one player in the state of Florida, has been considered a strong lean toward the Ohio State Buckeyes. Taron, the son of former NFL defensive back and current VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent, played his first two years of high school ball in Maryland before transferring to IMG Academy last season.

It appears, however, that it is now a two horse race between the Buckeyes and the Seminoles. During an interview with ESPN following his junior day visit this past weekend, Vincent praised the program – and said his parents feel the same way:

"“Florida State and Ohio State are my top two,” said Vincent. “I’m still kind of considering Michigan, but really it’s down to Florida State or Ohio State.”“… Just being able to sit down with Coach [Jimbo] Fisher, and everybody as a whole family was real good,” Vincent said. “They just said they really want me, and that Coach Fisher wants to keep building my relationship with him.”"

The Seminoles landed two players from IMG Academy in this year’s class – including Vincent’s former teammate on the defensive line, Joshua Kaindoh. The new ‘Nole has been doing his part in trying to keep the the pathway of recruiting from the Bradenton prep school to Tallahassee moving for Taron:

"“He told me how they recruited him, and how that hasn’t changed now that he is on campus,” Vincent said. “The relationship hasn’t changed now that he’s there.”"

Ohio State will get their chance to woe Johnson when he visits during IMG’s spring break, after which he says he will be close to making a decision. The Buckeyes should be concerned – 247 Sports predictions went from him being a 100 percent sure bet for Ohio State to just 69 percent from February 1st until the end of the month.

If Vincent does decide to come to Tallahassee, you can be sure that FSU football’s current class ranking of fifth nationally for 2018 will jump up quite a bit.
