FSU football is right now in the driver’s seat for the services of James Cook – one of the top backs in the 2018 class and brother of Dalvin Cook.

For the last three years, fans of FSU football have been given the joy of seeing one of the best running backs in all of college football take the field. Ever since coming up from Miami before the 2014 season, Dalvin Cook has impressed and amazed those in garnet and gold for what turned out to be 40 games that went by way too fast.

All may not be lost in the coming years, as another star running back from the Cook family could be making their way to Doak Campbell Stadium. Dalvin’s younger brother, James Cook, has been committed to the Seminoles since his freshman year at Miami Central High School – even reclassifying himself to be a part of the 2018 class and get to college a year earlier.

This weekend, Cook was with other star athletes at an event held at the training facility of the Miami Dolphins when reporters asked him about his recruitment – in which he continued to say he is a strong lean toward FSU football (h/t David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel):

Now, a lot of things can happen between now and when James Cook actually signed on the dotted line with Florida State or any other school. While it would be nice for him to say he’s a 100 percent firm ‘Noles commit, saying he is 80 percent at this point is a number many fans will take at this point.

Truthfully, I hope that Cook does enjoy the experience and explore all his options. This is one of the most important decisions he will have to make up to this point in his life and he should make sure it is the right one for him. While it would be disappointing for him to end up at another school – especially Florida or Clemson, two of the other options – James Cook has to do the best thing for just one person: James Cook.

One of the reasons Cook may still have other options being evaluated is the amount of running back talent FSU signed this past class. With Cam Akers and Khalan Laborn – the top overall players in their respective states and two of the top backs in the class – signing with the ‘Noles, Cook may wonder where he fits in. Of course, if he’s anything like his older brother, Cook will not be afraid of a challenge and decide to join his second family…FSU football.
