FSU football fans ready as National Signing Day is almost here. Let’s chat about some perspective regardless of what happens.

As it stands right now, FSU football has 21 commitments for the 2017 recruiting class and firmly in the mix for five or so recruits that will make their final decisions on Wednesday during National Signing Day.

We’ve gone over the remaining targets ad naseum. Some FSU fans are hyped about NSD and believe FSU football will sign all its remaining targets.

There are some FSU fans already backing off the NSD high as doubt begins to creep in on who they are hearing FSU will close with.

Some Perspective

FSU has the No. 5 recruiting class in the nation at the time of this writing. One of the commits will likely grayshirt as a long snapper, which means he will not enroll at FSU until 2018.

So with 20 commitments, 50 percent of these players are blue chip (four or five-star) recruits with four of the top 100 recruits in the nation already enrolled early.

FSU is smoking its rivals on the recruiting trails:

  • Miami is No. 16 in the nation with 35 percent of its players being blue chip
  • Florida is No. 20 in the nation with 41 percent of its players being blue chip

It’s not likely but FSU could miss on ALL its remaining targets and still have better classes than both of those schools.

Something else to keep in mind is that the remaining targets are all highly sought after players that are NOT from the state of Florida.

Reminder

However, the FSU staff have done an excellent job of filling needs in this class. Would be great to land Marvin Wilson from Texas? Absolutely, FSU has done everything it can do to get him to commit to FSU on Wednesday afternoon.

If he doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world as FSU already has two of the better defensive tackle recruits in this recruiting cycle committed in Ja’len Parks and Cory Durden.

I feel that FSU has shown every remaining target just how bad they are coveted/wanted in this class. It may be enough or it may not be enough.

However, we must remind ourselves that we’re dealing with teenagers that do not think rationally a great deal of the time. Just think back to when you were 17 or 18 years old, surely you were the same way. I know I was as a high school player with colleges recruiting me for baseball.

Most of all, don’t contact these recruits on social media if they decide to go elsewhere. It’s not a good look for you or FSU as a whole.
