Would the Seminoles entertain the idea of Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos?
Florida State football has struggled this year as they limp to a 1-9 record with so many losses that fans are losing track. The Seminoles were expected to win the conference championship and make the College Football Playoff.
However, that thought process has reared its ugly head. Florida State disappointed itself in Dublin, Ireland, against Georgia Tech, and then they welcomed Boston College, who gave them a scare in 2023 when the Seminoles had an impressive squad.
Florida State struggled versus dual-threat quarterback Thomas Castellanos. To make matters worse, the Seminoles were recruiting Castellanos as a running back when he was in the 2022 cycle. He ended up not coming to Florida State and signed with UCF.
After a short stint with the Knights, he decided to transfer to the Boston College Eagles. He did well under head football coach Jeff Hafley, where he had over 3,300 total yards with 27 total touchdowns in 2023.
However, the Eagles welcomed in new coach Bill O'Brien after Hafley decided to take the defensive coordinator role with the Green Bay Packers. We thought that Castellanos would take a step forward in his passing skill set.
He has recorded 1,366 passing yards with 18 passing touchdowns and only five interceptions (he had 14 in 2023). But Castellanos only had 194 rushing yards and one touchdown this year, though. His dual-threat ability is what makes him a great option.
On3 reported that Castellanos had stepped away from the team for a couple of days after being benched.
This benching could result in Castellanos transferring away from the program. Florida State could be a player in the recruitment if he was to enter the transfer portal. The Seminoles have fired offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans on the offensive side of the ball so far.
This could mean that there will be massive changes on the offensive line and a different philosophy in the scheme. Castellanos could be an effective weapon for the Seminoles in what seems like a prove-it year for Florida State after the disappointing 2024 campaign.
The quarterbacks Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek have been question marks for their outlook for the future. Could Castellanos be a safer option? We have seen him play at an effective level in college. I believ
Should Florida State go after him if he does transfer from Boston College?
