Florida State's offense during the 2024 season was horrendous where it ranks as one of the worst units in the country. As a result, head football coach Mike Norvell decided to move in a different direction and hire former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn as its offensive coordinator.

Malzahn's offenses have revolved around the idea of running the football. The Seminoles added former UCF and Boston College quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos, who is known as a dual-threat option.

We know that Castellanos is slated to be the starter for this upcoming season at quarterback. However, I wonder what happens to another talented option that many fans have talked about: Redshirt freshman Trever Jackson.

Jackson was a former four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle who was previously committed to the Ole Miss Rebels. Florida State was able to bring the signal-caller in as a preferred walk-on.

The rushing talent is there for Jackson, but he was benched during his senior season at Jones High School for his passing woes. However, the rushing totals were still there, with 104 carries for 855 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Struggling during a senior season with scholarships on the line can make or break a prospect's confidence. I believe that Jackson lost his belief in himself for a short period and needed the motivation to come to Florida State on a prove-it offer to stay home in the state of Florida.

Turning the page into 2025, fans are so excited for his skill set to hit the football field. I have never seen so much hype for a player who only had a rush for two yards versus Charleston Southern last year. With the Seminoles having a 105-man scholarship limit, Jackson now has a full offer.

I get that Jackson is an athlete that needs to see the field. I hope that the coaching staff can get him various packages for short yardage and goal line to use his athleticism. I feel that the Seminoles need to use players who can put points on the scoreboard, and I believe that Jackson can do that in 2025.
