Florida State football had a difficult 2024 season, finishing with a 2-10 record. The Seminoles' fan base wants to erase its memory of the program's struggles. Head football coach Mike Norvell made several changes to the team this offseason, so it looks entirely different.

It is important to note that not everything was considered "bad" from a season ago. There were flashes that Florida State can look forward to such as wide receiver BJ Gibson.

Gibson was a former four-star wide receiver prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The Seminoles also grabbed recruits such as Elijah Moore, Lawayne McCoy, and Camdon Frier. Gibson seemed to be a forgotten piece, considering that Moore and McCoy got most of the discussion in the offseason.

Even though Gibson started on the scout team to catch him up to speed, the talented pass catcher continued to work and earn himself reps on the field with his stellar play in practice. The coaching staff, especially Coach Norvell, raved about Gibson and his ability.

I realize that two receptions for 14 yards on the year don't seem like a ton of production, but Gibson displayed his ability to work through adversity, which is important to a football team that struggled in 2024.

Gibson was known as a two-sport athlete in high school where he also plays baseball. He formerly committed to the Tennessee Volunteers to play both sports. I wondered if Norvell would allow him to play baseball.

Gibson will now be playing baseball for the Seminoles this spring. It will not impact his playing time on the field in football. The wide receiver will play in the outfield for Florida State's baseball team. He hit over .450 with eight home runs during his final season in the sport.

The Seminoles' baseball program lost to Tennessee in the College World Series (that was a missed strike three...). Head baseball coach Link Jarrett will do his best to get Florida State its first-ever championship. Hopefully, Gibson can make some meaningful plays.
