WHERE ARE ALL OF THE TRANSFERS?
Florida State football fans have been restless when it comes to the transfer portal. They are used to head football coach Mike Norvell bringing in several high-quality transfers. However, with the 2-10 season, fans are expressing frustrations (for good reason).
With that said, the Seminoles did have three transfers visit on Thursday to their campus, with Oklahoma running back Gavin Sawchuk, North Carolina wide receiver Gavin Blackwell, and USC safety Jarvis Boatwright.
OKLAHOMA RB GAVIN SAWCHUK
I know that the fan base wants to see more from the running game, as the Seminoles ranked as one of the worst rushing attacks in the country for the 2024 season. Florida State returns much of the same group as last year, minus four-star signee Ousmane Kromah, who will enroll this summer.
Kromah is a talented back, but I don't know if many will feel comfortable with having a true freshman manning the running back position versus Alabama in the season opener. Sawchuk dealt with injuries in 2024, but he had 744 rushing yards in 2023 for the Sooners. Florida State fans likely remember the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl, where Sawchuk had 15 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown.
NORTH CAROLINA WR GAVIN BLACKWELL
Florida State added two transfers in the portal this offseason at the wide receiver position in USC's Duce Robinson and Tennessee's Squirrel White. Hopefully, it goes better than last year, where the Seminoles picked up Malik Benson and Jalen Brown, who are both off the roster.
Florida State has dealt with attrition in the position room, where Hykeem Williams, Jordan Scott, and Jalen Brown have all entered the transfer portal. The Seminoles are hosting North Carolina wide receiver Gavin Blackwell. He was a former four-star prospect, where he has recorded 31 receptions for 448 yards and one touchdown in his three seasons in Chapel Hill.
USC DB JARVIS BOATWRIGHT
Florida State liked what they had in the 2024 recruiting class when it comes to their defensive backfield with prospects such as Jamari Howard, Cai Bates, Charles Lester III, and Ricky Knight III. However, one recruit that they prospect that they spent time on that went elsewhere was former four-star safety prospect Jarvis Boatwright from Clearwater, Florida.
Boatwright eventually signed with the USC Trojans, but he announced that he would enter the transfer portal. The Seminoles have tried to get involved with former Tennessee safety transfer Jakobe Thomas, but he committed to Miami. As a result, the coaching staff will try to lure in Boatwright as he is visiting campus.
