FSU FOOTBALL IS HERE
Florida State football is preparing to take on its arch-rival Miami Hurricanes, on Saturday at 7:30 PM EST in Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles are coming off their first loss of the season against the Virginia Cavaliers on the road.
The Florida State-Miami matchup was supposed to be the game of the week, but the Seminoles ruined that opportunity for College GameDay after the defeat. However, the coaching staff and players know that it controls its championship aspirations if it keeps winning.
None of the teams likes the other. There is bad blood between them. There will be pivotal twists and turns that could make or break how the result shapes out.
INJURED PLAYERS RETURN
The Seminoles released their projected depth chart earlier this week for the Miami game. The projected depth charts used to be copied and pasted from what it was the previous week. However, the ACC requires the teams in the league to drop an official injury report when there is a conference matchup.
One surprise that I noticed was redshirt senior Roydell Williams was listed as a starter at running back. The former Alabama transfer had 26 carries for 52 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. It is difficult to understand what those statistics mean in an abysmal 2024 campaign.
With that being said, Williams had six attempts for 14 yards in the season opener against his former team. It might not seem like something noteworthy, but the running back had a pivotal carry on 4th down and 1 when the Seminoles led by 24-17 with 9:09 left to go in the fourth quarter.
Head football coach Mike Norvell decided to go for it in an attempt to put the game away, and Williams gained four yards on fourth down to eventually give Florida State a 31-17 lead to ice the game.
It speaks volumes to what Williams means to Coach Norvell as he trusted him at that moment. This isn't to say that the Hueytown, Alabama native is someone who will rush for 100 yards against Miami on Saturday, but he is another veteran who has played in big moments and could give the Seminoles' offense a boost.
