Well... That one stinks for the Seminoles.

FSU VS UVA

Florida State football entered the contest against Virginia as 7.5-point road favorites, per DraftKings Sportsbook. Most individuals thought that the obvious play would be to smash the Seminoles and the point spread after what they did to Alabama in the season opener.

However, on Friday night, Florida State looked like a completely different squad defensively than they did against the Crimson Tide. They lost to Virginia by a score of 46-38 in double overtime.

Yes, you read that correctly: DOUBLE OVERTIME!

DEFENSE WAS UNDERWHELMING

This was an embarrassing showing by the defense, as they allowed the Cavaliers to rush for 211 yards and four touchdowns. Virginia had a 6:13 third-quarter touchdown drive, then followed it up with a 7:58 touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

Simply put, the defense couldn't get off the field. It was puzzling because fans and those watching the Seminoles saw the aggressive mindset that they had. However, they seemed to lack focus and determination in this contest to stop Virginia's offense.

There were errors by the offense, too, even though they accumulated 514 total yards. The Seminoles had three turnovers and lacked a secondary wide receiver to pair with 6'6" Duce Robinson, who was dominant.

This isn't an opportunity to trash defensive coordinator Tony White or these players, but this should be a learning experience that they could use as they prepare for Miami. It didn't seem like they were looking ahead to the Hurricanes, but the way they approached wrapping up at times on defense when the Cavaliers were running the football was concerning.

As always, Go Noles! Let's rebound against Miami!
