SPEED, SPEED, AND MORE SPEED
Florida State football begins its fall camp today (Wednesday, July 30th). It is an exciting time for the fan base because they want to witness the program exceed the expectations after falling to 2-10 a season ago.
2024 was a year when the Seminoles wanted to prove the doubters wrong after being snubbed from the College Football Playoff in favor of a one-loss Alabama team. It became a roster that was dangerously optimistic in its abilities (it's okay to be confident) when it had to replace a ton of heavy contributors.
The offense seems to miss a spark that it had in 2023, where it miraculously mustered a whopping 15.2 points per game in a unit that had a lack of playmakers. This is where speedy options would be nice to come into play, such as athletes Jaylin Lucas or Micahi Danzy.
MICAHI DANZY
I will say that I was/still am excited about redshirt freshman Micahi Danzy. The Tallahassee native was allowed to redshirt in 2024, where he only recorded one reception for 38 yards against Charleston Southern (the infamous wheel route).
It made a big difference that the coaching staff showed faith in his abilities to go back to Danzy on a wheel route after he had dropped a similar wheel route concept versus Clemson a couple of weeks before that moment against Charleston Southern.
Danzy was moved from running back to wide receiver this offseason. This move made sense, considering that the running back group has a load of talented options and the track-and-field star probably wasn't going to be classified as someone who was an every-down back.
However, with that said, it isn't like Florida State cannot use him in other ways. Danzy would be a good pass-catching option in the slot or out of the backfield against a linebacker or safety. I hope that wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. finds a method that the speedster is comfortable with so he can be successful.
