Two transfer portal prospects will officially visit Florida State
Florida State football is in win-now mode after finishing with a 2-10 record in 2024. Some individuals think that head football coach Mike Norvell has to be successful in 2025 or he will be fired.
The university has backed Norvell and allowed him to fix the mess that he had built up in 2022 and 2023 and then destroyed in 2024. The fan base did not find much hope until the assistant coaching staff was fired.
There were fans out there who didn't think Norvell would make the changes. He then decided to hire Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator, Tony White as defensive coordinator, Terrance Knighton as defensive line coach, and Evan Cooper as safeties coach.
The recruiting class is considered the 20th-best recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. I was surprised by how the Seminoles finished, as Florida State was seemingly getting used to being spurned on the final hour by prospects.
Honestly, minus five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas flipping to LSU, this was a success on the recruiting trail. The coaching staff is now turning its attention to the transfer portal. I know this makes Seminole fans uneasy, given how the transfers played this year.
However, the roster has to be flipped from a squad that only won two games. Florida State is going to be active in the transfer portal and will have to pay up for top-tier talent.
Two notable transfers will be officially Florida State soon in Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos (Wednesday, December 11th) and Nebraska defensive end James Williams (Monday, December 16th).
Castellanos is a name that Florida State fans would express their displeasure given that the quarterback ended things with Boston College before the season ended and his height (5'10"). But the truth of the matter is that he is a dynamic weapon with his arms and feet. While he has had success against Florida State, so did Everett Golson (we saw how that panned out).
Williams is a pass rusher who is very familiar with Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White's 3-3-5 defensive scheme, where he recorded 18 tackles (eight for loss) and seven sacks in 16 career games with the Cornhuskers.
Nonetheless, this transfer portal will be huge for the Seminoles as they look to get a ton of these transfers in Tallahassee for the spring.
