Florida State football is in the middle of its spring practice season in hopes of bouncing back from its 5-7 campaign a season ago. The championship chatter was high after beating Alabama in the season opener last year, but the thought process immediately got squashed as the season went along.

Head coach Mike Norvell is on some fans' bad side with having four losing seasons in six years, which is never the standard for a proud program like Florida State. The Seminole faithful is exhausted from having to conduct rebuild after rebuild with no sustainability.

The administration decided to retain Mike Norvell for the 2026 season, which disappointed some of the fan base after enduring the Stanford road loss. With that said, Norvell knows how important this year is. The head coach isn't oblivious to what is transpiring in Tallahassee. Norvell is now in charge of the play-calling duties after the offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired this offseason.

Mike Norvell mentions true freshman wide receiver Darryon Williams as the first notable player in Tuesday's media session

Florida State has added several new players to its roster via the transfer portal and high school recruiting ranks. This isn't anything new, as the sport of college football is always changing. Wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. has been doing well getting pass catchers on the roster.

Veteran Duce Robinson decided to return to Florida State for his senior season, which created positive headlines for the university. While the former USC transfer is vital to the Seminoles' success, Harris Jr. also has to worry about the future foundation of the position, too.

The Seminoles grabbed six wide receivers in the 2026 cycle, and pass catchers such as Devin Carter and Jasen Lopez always get attention as high four-star prospects. However, Mike Norvell talked to the media after Tuesday's practice, and the first player that he mentioned was true freshman wide receiver Darryon Williams.

Williams was a three-star prospect from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida. Norvell talked about how the Florida native made a good play today in practice, and that it was nice to see him get out there and do that.

It was noteworthy that Williams was mentioned first. Hopefully, it is a confidence booster for him to be a future piece in the wide receiver room for the Seminoles.
