This playmaker could be a defense's worst nightmare.

FSU FOOTBALL

Florida State football will be taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th at 3:30 PM EST on ABC in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium. The fan base will be excited to see how the program performs after the 2-10 record in 2024.

The projected depth chart was released on Monday afternoon, which had many fans buzzing on social media (other than Donny Hiebert as a backup safety). Florida State wants to prove the doubters wrong this upcoming season.

CHASE LOFTIN

Our very own Kelvin Hunt broke down his thoughts about the projected depth chart. As we know about the Mike Norvell era in Tallahassee, it is noted to make sure not to put full stock into a projected depth chart. Who knows, veteran defensive back Shyheim Brown could be starting at safety.

One aspect that stood out to me is the insertion of former four-star prospect Chase Loftin. I loved the acquisition of the Nebraska native in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Head football coach Mike Norvell has raved about Loftin this offseason. He classified the playmaker as a top target for the program in the recruiting class.

Loftin was recruited as a tight end, but Florida State had him listed as a backup wide receiver. I believe that having the 6'6" true freshman in that position could give Castellanos another big-bodied weapon to move the chains.

I wondered how the rotation of Randy Pittman Jr., Landen Thomas, Amaree Williams, Markeston Douglas, and Chase Loftin would play out at the tight end position. This solves that issue, and it seems like Lawayne McCoy being injured could have opened the door for the true freshman to be moved over to wide receiver at least for the time being.
