Florida State Women’s Basketball is going through various changes. Makayla Timpson and O’Mariah Gordon said goodbye as they’re graduating as seniors. Most importantly, the nation's leading scorer Ta’Niya Latson also says goodbye as she’s taking her talents to South Carolina. Just like that, it’s back to square one for Seminoles head coach Brooke Wyckoff as she looks to rebuild the roster.
It’s a good thing we are in April. There are still seven months until the 2025-26 season begins which gives Florida State plenty of time to create a new roster for the new year. The Transfer Portal is filled with high-caliber players who are looking to find a new home. Who is it for Brooke Wyckoff to not take advantage and find her new talent to bring to Tallahassee?
It’s still early in the offseason as the Transfer Portal is adding new players day by day. Luckily, the Seminoles went to work as they acquired an elite wing named Sole Williams from Texas A&M. Williams spent two seasons with the Aggies while averaging 6.2 points along with 2.4 assists on 32 percent shooting. I’m sure fans will look at the numbers and make a case that Williams is not an impactful player. However, the eye test says otherwise as she can be a dangerous offensive weapon.
New Beginnings!❤️

Many college basketball fans are unfamiliar with Williams and her game, and there are a lot of factors why. One reason is because of her inconsistent playing time. Although Williams started in 26 games during the 2024-25 season, she also had games where she was limited on the floor, whether it was time on the court or lack of opportunity to score. Another reason could be due to the Aggies finishing the season with a 10-19 record (3-13 in SEC). Many factors overshadowed Williams’ talent as a player.
Luckily, Tallahassee is where transfers thrive. On both the men's and women's side, several players have transferred to Florida State and elevated their play. Sole Williams can be the next transfer who can elevate themselves to become a star. What stands out in her game is her confidence when scoring. With her length, quickness, and mobility, she knows she has an advantage over the defense. Williams can score in multiple ways as she attacks the rim, finds her spots in the mid-range, and continues to grow into a three-level scorer.
Despite the ups and downs as a sophomore, Williams produced some big scoring performances for the Aggies. One that stands out is scoring 21 points in February against Auburn. Despite taking the loss, the game showed Williams’ talent on the offensive end. She began the game on fire as she did a good job showing her dominance on and off the ball. Williams was also confident in her shooting as she took advantage of quality looks. It was by far her best game as she reminded many people how talented she is.
It’s one thing to play for Florida State. However, can a player thrive in the system that they run? That’s the question fans will want answers to once the season begins. The Seminoles offense is a run-and-gun style where they look to get out in transition and find quick baskets. It’s a formula that has worked over the years as opposing teams have been in shambles trying to slow them down.
Florida State’s system is one where Sole Williams can thrive as a player. It’ll test her ability to run an offense and become a quick decision-maker. The easy part for Williams would be to find a way to score in a fast-paced offense. However, will she be able to read the floor and know where her teammates will be positioned? Playing for Florida State will help Williams grow as an all-around player, as we’ve seen with several players in years past.
Sole Williams has an opportunity to do great things while wearing Garnet and Gold. A team with no more Latson, Gordon, and Timpson opens up bigger opportunities for players to embrace a bigger role. Fans should expect Williams to shine for the Seminoles during the 2025-26 season. She’s in a better situation where the coaching staff believes they can help maximize her full potential.
