Deante McCray

Many fans see guys from smaller programs as inferior players, but we've seen guys come from smaller programs to become big-time players at FSU.

I'm not saying Deante McCray will be the next Jared Verse, but he has the potential to play a large role in Tony White's defense in 2025.

Transfer portal rankings are terrible for the most part. Randy Pittman doesn't even have a transfer portal ranking, and he was a productive tight end last year. McCray has a three-star ranking as a transfer from Western Kentucky.

However, his size and ability to play different positions along the defensive front is what makes him extremely valuable. He can play the edge or on the interior and can help provide Tony White with multiple options based on how they attempt to defend an offense.

Imagine a defensive front with Darrell Jackson Jr., Deante McCray, and James Williams in a three-man front. They could go with Jayson Jenkins, Darrell Jackson, Deante McCray, and James Williams in a four-man front.

The combinations are nearly endless because of his size and length, which makes him an underrated piece in this class.

The defensive front is usually the strength of Tony White's defense. If the play well, the rest of the unit can feed off them.
