Thoughts on Odell Haggins and Randy Shannon's movement in the coaching staff
Florida State football finished with an unspeakable 2-10 record to end the 2024 season. That certainly was not the standard of the Seminoles. The fan base and individuals around the program know that is unacceptable.
Florida State is facing its third losing season in five years under the Mike Norvell era. Questions surround the program; some wonder if he is the right man for the job.
Norvell talked to the media about this struggle being a quick fix, which would allow Florida State to get itself turned around. Without firing Norvell and spending over $60 million, the Seminoles let go of Alex Atkins, Adam Fuller, and Ron Dugans.
They weren't finished there as Odell Haggins (he is still with the staff as an associate head coach) and Randy Shannon were relieved of on-field duties.
As for Haggins, I commend his time as an assistant coach. He is more than just a football coach, Haggins was a Seminole through and through. There would be one else that I would want to represent Florida State, more than the former defensive lineman coach. He would be the first one to rip a Gatorade out of your hands if you drank it in front of him.
Even though recruiting is a young man's game with NIL, fans respected Haggins's ability to develop and emphasize what it meant to be such a great individual for the university. The off-field position is perfect for him, where he can build relationships and still be around the school he loves.
As for Randy Shannon, some fans did not like the promotion of co-defensive coordinator, but Norvell seemed to like the experience that Shannon brought to the coaching staff. His lack of recruiting stood out to many, where the Seminoles constantly whiffed on many of its talented targets.
Overall, the thought processes of Haggins and Shannon were vastly different, but I wish nothing of them nothing but the best in their next chapters.
