Life comes at you fast. A few months ago, the media portrayed Thomas Castellanos as someone who quit on his former team at Boston College and as a guy who wasn’t an accurate passer. After two games, including leading FSU football with a big upset victory over Alabama in the season opener, Castellanos is the guy in the No. 1 spot among several top early Heisman favorite lists.
The crazy part is that Castellanos has only played in about six quarters this season and has attempted only 25 passes. He has completed 17 (68 percent completion percentage) and thrown three touchdown passes. He is averaging 15.6 yards per attempt and hasn’t thrown an interception. He’s a threat on the ground, rushing 20 times for 85 yards and a touchdown.
I’m sure these numbers will change as the sample size grows, but it’s a prime reason why the media should allow the games to get played instead of guys before the season starts, especially those that haven’t done anything except receive hype from recruiting websites.
There was no reason for Archie Manning or DJ Lagway to be atop those lists going into the season. At least put guys that have some proven production up there.
Check out some of these current lists:

The Heisman Trophy is more of a popularity contest than anything. I still contend the wrong guy won it last year. If FSU continues to win at a high level, Castellanos will be in the mix and can do enough damage on the ground and through the air to make it interesting.
He should be well over 2,000 passing yards and close to 1,000 rushing yards by the end of the season, unless FSU continues to blow teams away. There’s a lot of ball left to get played, so we’ll have to continue to let the games get played!
