FSU FOOTBALL
Florida State football suffered an unfortunate loss to arch-rival Miami on Saturday night, falling 28-22. However, they take on Pittsburgh this weekend in hopes of getting back in the win column.
The Seminoles had high expectations after beating Alabama in the season opener. Individuals across the country originally questioned the Crimson Tide about being "overrated", but that notion has stopped after they beat Vanderbilt and Georgia in recent weeks.
The roster as a whole is looking for difference makers. The offense has been a roller coaster ride during the last two weeks against Virginia and Miami, but offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn hopes this Pittsburgh contest is what sparks the excitement in the fan base again.
BJ GIBSON
Even though the Seminoles have had two straight losses, quarterback Thomas Castellanos is assessed as a "win" for the Seminoles. He has shown his skill set, but it has not been all roses and rainbows.
Castellnos' offense doesn't have a true, reliable pass catcher. The fan base thought that veteran transfer Squirrel White to be that option, but he has struggled with inconsistencies and injury issues. The 2024 wide receiver recruiting class hasn't been that impactful yet (other than Lawayne McCoy).
Even though Coach Norvell referred to McCoy as a "tier one receiver", the Miami, Florida, native has his own set of expectations with his development, plus he suffered an injury. The 2024 class was a solid one for Florida State
One wide receiver that I believed could get a solid amount of burn is wide receiver BJ Gibson, who committed in that 2024 cycle. Gibson has not done much throughout his time with the Seminoles' football program, but this could have been an appropriate spot to put the Georgia native at punt returner since he plays in the outfield for the baseball team, and he would be able to catch the punts.
According to Warchant's Matt LaSerre, wide receiver BJ Gibson will be leaving the football program and sticking primarily with baseball.

Overall, this is probably the smartest move for him. The Seminoles have brought in six new wide receiver commitments to the 2026 class (no one has signed yet). This could be a situation where Gibson is looking at his opportunities with all the pass catchers coming to Tallahassee.
The athletic product did not produce eye-opening numbers (statistics via Seminoles.com) as he had in 21 games with nine starts in left field, and hit .242 with a .333 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage.
This move to go full-time in baseball could allow him to focus more on the sport that he has the best chance to play in.
