This veteran cornerback could be a game-changer for the Seminoles in 2025

This cornerback could be really good.

FSU FOOTBALL BOUNCE BACK?

Florida State football finished with a 2-10 record in 2024. This was not something that the fan base (or anyone, for that matter, unless you are Greg McElroy or Paul Finebaum) wanted to witness.

However, head football coach Mike Norvell has to find a way to learn from the mistakes, turn the page, and make sure that it never happens again. Coach Norvell decided to acquire new players via the transfer portal and recruiting ranks. Plus, he added a fresh slate to the coaching staff.

PIVOTAL SEASON OPENER

Florida State football plays the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, August 30th at 3:30 PM EST in Doak Campbell Stadium on ABC. This will be a challenging opponent since the Crimson Tide will want to avenge not making the College Football Playoff last year and losing to opponents that they should have beat, such as Oklahoma and Vanderbilt.

With that said, the program is loaded with talent, but it might trot out career reserve Ty Simpson. I do believe the veteran quarterback is a serviceable option, but I wonder how he will do in his first road start with all of the expectations of him to succeed.

Simpson might be a question mark at the moment, but the weapons that he will have around him are some of the best in the country. One pass catcher to remember is superstar Ryan Williams (don't worry, he isn't 17 years old anymore). Williams had 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

JEREMIAH WILSON

The Seminoles will be tasked with trying to eliminate him and the other options in the rotation. One player on the Seminoles' roster who should be a game-changer in stopping opposing receivers is former Houston defensive back Jeremiah Wilson.

Wilson was considered one of the best man-to-man cornerbacks in the country, according to Pro Football Focus. The Houston product had 24 tackles, four passes defended, and four interceptions. The one aspect that has me excited is that he had experience in play for defensive coordinator Tony White's scheme when Wilson was at Syracuse.

Overall, it is difficult not to get excited about a veteran cornerback who has the potential to be good in the Seminoles' defense.
