This true freshman took second-team reps on offense in FSU's Sunday scrimmage

This is a great development for the Seminoles' offense.

FSU FOOTBALL FALL SCRIMMAGE

Florida State football will be taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, August 30th at 3:30 PM EST. To be completely honest, I can barely contain my excitement for the start of college football.

The Seminoles had their second fall camp scrimmage on Sunday night as the team is trying to find its identity. The program struggled last season as it limped to a 2-10 record. That is still unbelievable that I have to type that sentence.

One of the reasons behind the shortcomings was the lack of explosiveness on the offensive end. As a result, head football coach Mike Norvell hired offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn to stabilize the offense.

GUS BUS HAS HIS QB

Coach Malzahn was once classified as one of the more innovative offensive minds in all of college football. He had his tenure as the head football coach at UCF, where it looked to be a disaster in 2024. However, Malzahn looks to resurrect his career in Tallahassee.

One good method to do that is that Florida State brought in transfer Thomas Castellanos, who signed with Malzahn and the Knights out of high school. Castellanos's ability to use his legs to extend drives could give the Crimson Tide's defense fits.

Fans likely know that the former UCF and Boston College transfer will be the starter for Florida State this season. However, it is a fair question to see who the backup is.

Coach Malzahn spoke to the media on Monday afternoon about Sunday's scrimmage, where he talked about true freshman quarterback Kevin Sperry taking the No. 2 reps in the scrimmage. This was a fascinating development as the Seminoles also have redshirt sophomore Brock Glenn in the rotation. However, the coaching staff has raved about Sperry's progression.

This is a great sign for the future foundation of the Florida State Seminoles.
