FSU FOOTBALL PICKUPS
Florida State fans want to forget last season even happened as the program limped to the finish line with a 2-10 record. However, this presents a new opportunity for the Seminoles to capitalize on.
The coaching staff decided to add forty-four new transfers and recruits this offseason. The hope is that it will stabilize the program's floor, which is expected to compete for conference and national championships.
I know that the talk of the fan base will be quarterback Thomas Castellanos. This is to be expected, given his comments about the Alabama Crimson Tide. The attention will all be on him. However, he grows in confidence if his offensive line can block for him.
FSU OFFENSIVE LINE
Florida State football made a position coach change on the offensive line as Alex Atkins was relieved of his duties, and the Seminoles hired former UCF offensive line coach Herb Hand to guide the unit.
The position group needed some much-needed help this past offseason as the Seminoles had one of the worst offensive units in college football. One of the biggest pickups in the transfer portal, to me, was former Vanderbilt redshirt senior offensive tackle Gunnar Hansen.
The veteran started 35 games in his career with the Commodores. He primarily plays the left tackle position, which will be tasked with protecting Castellanos' blind side.
I know that the quarterback made some interesting comments about the Crimson Tide and probably put a target on his back, but you have to remember that former Vanderbilt signal-caller Diego Pavia was equally as vocal to the media about his confidence as a player.
Nonetheless, the play from Hansen will likely dictate how the Seminoles' 2025 campaign will go, and I cannot wait to see how the offensive line responds to its disappointing showing.
