Florida State football did not have the season it wanted in 2025, finishing with a 5-7 record and losing seven of its last nine games. The "standard" is something that is often discussed during the Mike Norvell era because Florida State has suffered four losing seasons in six years.
This isn't to say the fault falls solely on Norvell because it is a collective effort. However, the squad added several new players to its roster via the transfer portal and the high school recruiting ranks. Additionally, Florida State has added more coaches to its staff.
One of the biggest coaching moves of the offseason was that the Seminoles fired defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. The fan base was confused as to why this happened because his position group didn't seem awful, and his recruiting efforts were solid. Nonetheless, Florida State went through with the firing process and hired Michigan State's Blue Adams as cornerbacks coach.
Cornerbacks coach Blue Adams could use true freshman Chauncey Kennon in the rotation
Coach Adams is responsible for uploading the title of being one of the DBUs in college football. That responsibility should not be taken lightly. The organization did him a favor by bringing back Ja'Bril Rawls after he had ongoing NIL negotiations and needed to figure out the best move for him after the firing of Patrick Surtain Sr.
The Seminoles did, unfortunately, lose Edwin Joseph Jr. to the Ole Miss Rebels. The attention of the fan base comes to South Alabama's Nehemiah Chandler, whom the staff added this offseason to be a potential starter at cornerback.
However, I wouldn't rule out the chance of Chauncey Kennon being a contender, who was a former top-50 prospect in the 2026 cycle. Kennon was featured in a recent video that Florida State football's social media account posted.

Kennon was pursued by schools such as Miami, Florida, and Georgia, but Florida State won out in the end. He has a Florida State tattoo on his body, which solidified his commitment to the Seminoles even more.
He dealt with injuries during his senior season of high school, where he only recorded 19 tackles, three pass breakups, and one interception. However, he broke out during his junior year, where he made 33 tackles, 16 pass breakups, one interception, and one forced fumble (Statistics were found via MaxPreps).
The Sarasota, Florida, native looks healthy and has built muscle in the video that was posted. The hope is that he can contribute early in his career and make the Seminoles' secondary one of the best in the country.
