FSU BASKETBALL

Florida State basketball is heading into a new era, where they play Florida A&M in an exhibition matchup on Sunday night. They will be guided by new head basketball coach Luke Loucks, who coaches on teams with Steph Curry and De'Aaron Fox, that will emphasize fasted-pace offense and three-point shots.

Former head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton had his teams rolling before the COVID pandemic. Unfortunately, that looked to be the end of a great period for Seminole basketball.

I previously made an article highlighting former forward Scottie Barnes, who is currently on the Toronto Raptors, after he finished with 22 points against the Hawks. However, this is an opportunity to talk about someone else who had themselves a great performance.

FORMER FSU BASKETBALL PLAYERS

Current San Antonio Spurs guard Devin Vassell made his presence felt on Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans on the road, as he recorded 23 points, five rebounds, and one assist. The more impressive statistic was that he was 6/14 from three-point range.

Everyone will talk about what the 7'4" Victor Wembanyama did with his 29 points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks, but Vassell was able to make a difference. In overtime, he connected on a three-pointer with four minutes left to go to allow the Spurs to go up 112-108.

The Spurs' opener gets overshadowed by Wembanyama's 40-point performance, as they defeated the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 125-92. However, Vassell only had 13 points in the game and looks more confident as a player in the second game of the season.

The Spurs play an 0-2 Brooklyn Nets team on Sunday afternoon that has losses to the Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers. This is another game that the former Florida State player can shine.
