Florida State's offensive unit had its inconsistencies during the 2025 season. Coordinator Gus Malzahn has been around for a long period of time, but his offenses are focused on the idea of establishing the running game.
When the unit is caught behind the chains in long yardage situations, it is a major disadvantage. This is why Seminole fans want to see the program get a high-caliber quarterback via the transfer portal.
Some individuals want to see what young signal-caller Kevin Sperry is all about. However, this year is too important for head football coach Mike Norvell to mess up, since he has had four losing seasons in six years during his time with Florida State.
Some have to factor in that quarterback Thomas Castellanos could be returning in 2026 if his waiver gets approved. However, it seems unlikely at this time. Overall, this is an offense that has playmakers such as Duce Robinson (if he returns), Micahi Danzy, and Lawayne McCoy.
With that said, individuals forget about the talented youngster Jayvan Boggs at wide receiver. The former Cocoa High School standout had a tremendous prep career, where he consistently caused issues for opposing defenses.
Duce Robinson even mentioned that Boggs was a future pro. The Florida native only recorded nine receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown during the 2025 season. However, he dealt with nagging injuries that hampered his ability to showcase his talents on the field.
Obviously, Danzy and McCoy are deserving of being kept on the roster this offseason because of their production and upside. However, Boggs needs to prioritized as well. There were times when the freshman was missed on the field when he was open. At the same token, the youngster has to stay healthy, so that he can get more of the opportunities.
The Seminoles will likely bring in a new quarterback this offseason, or at the very least start a signal-caller that doesn't have much experience (Kevin Sperry). There are never enough wide receivers to go around in an offense, and they cannot afford to lose a good one in Boggs.
