NFL teams are always about taking risks in the draft. Oftentimes, we see first-round picks fizzle out of the league within the first couple of years. It is crazy to see how many General Managers get fired of their draft day selections.
In terms of Florida State, they shouldn't have any first-round picks in Thursday's start to the NFL Draft (unless defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. somehow has a miraculous jump). However, fans just want to see the program be successful again.
Head coach Mike Norvell had this program rolling in 2023, where they were eventually snubbed by the Alabama Crimson Tide heartbreakingly. Leave it up to ESPN and the College Football Playoff committee to select an SEC school, and then leave the ACC squad out to dry.
That has been the downfall of Florida State. Even before then, the general public thought the Seminoles wouldn't be competitive in the College Football Playoff after Jordan Travis's injury. However, that squad had numerous players on the roster who got drafted in the NFL.
This is unfortunate for former Florida State running back Trey Benson
One of those players is former running back Trey Benson, who the Arizona Cardinals selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Benson was someone that the fan base doubted coming into Florida State because he had a serious knee injury that he was recovering from at Oregon, and barely had 25 career rushing yards.
The talented rusher had 1,896 yards and 23 touchdowns during his two seasons at Florida State, so his workhorse ability was on display.
The Cardinals used their third overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on former Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, which could hinder Benson's opportunity for playing time with the Cardinals.

Benson was already in a committee backfield with James Conner, who suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3 of the 2025 campaign. Benson got hurt himself in 2025 and only recorded 29 carries for 160 yards and zero touchdowns last season.
The selection of Love might cause the former Florida State Seminole to switch teams in hopes of getting a better opportunity.
